Genesis Reference Labs underwent a change in ownership in 2018, which marked the beginning of a new era for the company. Since then, the new management has been working tirelessly to expand the range of services the Lab offers. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Genesis Reference Labs was one of the pioneers in offering testing services, and this proactive approach has been instrumental in the fight against the pandemic.
In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Genesis Reference Labs continued to invest in its core diagnostic testing services to ensure sustainable growth. The company believes “those closest to the work often have the answers” and Genesis prides itself on its team approach, where each member of the company has a voice in the creation of company initiatives. This approach ensures that everyone’s input is valued, and decisions are made collaboratively.
Genesis Reference Labs has a customer-centric approach, where the goal is to make every customer feel known and valued. To achieve this, each customer is assigned a face-to-face representative and a home office customer representative. This personalized approach has been instrumental in the company’s success.
To ensure sustained growth, Genesis Reference Labs has put in place a Leadership Development Program, which is a cohort group of Genesis team members who have applied and been accepted. The program aims to provide leadership training and development opportunities to the selected team members, which will enhance their skills and knowledge, and in turn, benefit the company.
Genesis Reference Labs underwent an overhaul in leadership starting in 2022 and leading into 2023. These leaders are ushering in a new era of expansion for Genesis Reference Laboratories.

Nicole Moberg, Chief Executive Officer
Nicole Moberg became the Chief Executive Officer at Genesis Reference Laboratories in 2022. She has previously worked as a Chief Operating Officer (COO) in Senior Living and a Chief Sales Officer (CSO) in laboratory diagnostics. Nicole is known for her exceptional people skills and is a builder of teams.
Nicole also spent several years teaching at the University of Central Florida (UCF), where she was instrumental in developing one of UCF’s top-five nationally ranked programs. Nicole received numerous teaching awards for her role in curriculum design, student impact, and corporate partnerships. She was also a business development leader for the university’s first Professional MBA program.
Nicole has completed the high potential leadership program from Harvard Business School Executive Education. She is passionate about helping grow and develop leaders within Genesis and has established the GRL High Potential Leadership Program as a commitment to the team.
Outside of work, Nicole is a pilates lover, leadership book hoarder and a “sports going mom”.

Dan Malkos, Chief Financial Officer
Dan is an executive-level accountant with over 30 years of Accounting, Finance, and Financial Operations experience, with the majority of that experience in the healthcare industry. He holds a BS in Accounting from Penn State University and an MBA from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh.
Dan started his accounting career in a small community hospital and has been in healthcare ever since. He has been a finance leader in Hospitals, Skilled Nursing Companies, Physician Practices, Cardiac Monitoring Company, and Laboratories. He has focused on the operational finance side of each organization, which has enabled him to be a leader within the organizations that he has been a part of.
Outside of work, Dan is married and is the father of two wonderful daughters. He spends most of his non-working time doing things with his family and being involved with his church.
Scott Lagasse, VP of Medical Affairs
Scott’s career path begins in Gainesville, Florida where he attended the University of Florida for both his undergraduate education and the College of Pharmacy from which he received his PharmD. After graduation Scott began his pharmacy career in the Veterans Affairs Healthcare System, where he spent 10 years caring for veterans. Scott was highly involved in clinical training of pharmacy students and first year graduates, and he developed and oversaw an ASHP accredited 2nd year residency for pharmacists that wanted to specialize in Pain and Palliative Care. The next challenge for Scott was transitioning into the pharmaceutical industry where he worked as a scientific liaison in the diagnostic space and then a traditional medical affairs position as an MSL at a small pharmaceutical company, where he helped launch a next generation, long-acting opioid with abuse deterrent technology.
Now, in his current role as Vice President of Medical Affairs at Genesis, Scott is harnessing his 20 years of experience to bring top of industry clinical education to both his colleagues and the clients that depend on Genesis.
Outside of work, Scott is a devoted husband, father of two very active young girls and a diehard Florida Gator fan. On any given day, he waffles as to whether he loves to exercise because he loves to eat, or if he loves to eat because he loves exercising.
